I recently went on a day course in the Lake District and have to say that I thought it was both extremely informative and also enjoyable. I found immediate confidence after discussing my ambitions with Iain as he immediately knew what would suit my needs from this. As you can see from Iain”s profile he is very experienced and this showed on the day. There were a few other climbers on the routes that day that were great examples of what not to do in terms of etiquette and safety, which was very apparent to me from what Iain had taught me in terms of the right way to do things. Iain took pictures throughout the day and has since sent me them with notes on each picture which allows me to re-familiarise and study.

Overall I had a great experience and felt I was in very good hands the whole day. I would highly recommend Iain and Kendal Mountaineering Services and I will look to use them again for my future climbing needs.

Thank you Iain,for such a great scrambling course – we’ll return to the Lakes with rope and gear as soon as we can! It was exactly what we were hoping for – to learn to protect ourselves on more adventurous routes and to get some confidence for heading off to the hills for a scramble. And great fun too!

Susanne and I have just done a bespoke 2 day navigation skills course with Iain in the beautiful Borrowdale Valley in the Lake District.

We were highly impressed with Iain's knowledge and experience. His easy going nature enabled us to relax and learn the various skills involved in navigation. The course is structured well with each skill set blending into the next set. Suddenly you find yourself being able to find a 8 grid reference on the map and then walking and locating it on the ground!

When necessary his attention to our safety was obvious and reassuring.

One of the things Susanne and I did while on the course was to to pick Iain”s brains in relation to outdoor clothing and equipment. This was great as it is going to be a huge help in ensuring we choose the right gear the first time.

We both highly recommend anyone wishing to do a navigation skills course to contact Iain. We are sure you will enjoy it as much as we did and at the same time learning some essential skills to enjoy the outdoors. We have already decided our next course with Iain is going to be the summer mountain craft course. Just need to tell him now!

Have just finished a two day navigation course in Kentmere,not only did we pick the perfect weather for the weekend, but in Iain we picked the perfect instructor, there was nine of us on the course and Iain had time for everyone,I had some map reading skills before,but Iain taught me a lot of new skills ,and i am now confident to go out and use these on my own,i got more out of the weekend than i expected and i will be booking a course to take me to the next stage. I have just completed a 2 day mountain navigation course with Iain in Kentmere, beautiful weather, great setting and excellent instructor. I now feel confident to navigate the hills and mountains safely with my family, I had a basic knowledge before starting this course but was very rusty and within a short space of time was able to read 8 digit grid references with ease.

I know have a good base to take me up to the next level and look forward to doing a different course with KMS in the future.

Had a great day with Iain taking instruction on trad leading and multi-pitch climbing techniques. Lot’s of good information tailored to meet our needs. Wow... what a day! I had previously completed this route and booked for four friends to go on Easter Sunday 2014. The other three had never been on anything like this….

From the start Iain was professional but great fun! We had a BRILLIANT afternoon, the flexibility to give everything a go but no pressure was ace and everyone tried everything including the famous “cheese press”! We abseiled down waterfalls, climbed up them, squeezed through the “slot” and finished up in the fabulous Dr Banisters Washbasin.

Iain shared stories and facts along the whole route with enthusiasm and you always felt totally safe! As a day out this is a reasonably priced activity that will give you something completely different and leave you with memories you’ll love to share! (Beginners' Caving at Long Churn)

Went canyoning with 6 other guys at Coniston. Top top day with Iain. My mate had not done it before and were skeptical beforehand… But everyone of them is eager to have another go. Iain made sure the day was fun. Tailored to what we wanted to do, exhilarating at times but we always felt safe. All equipment was provided and it was just a no hassle fun experience. Would highly recommend this company to anyone looking for a top top time! Thanks Iain and hopefully see you again.

Fantastic experience with Iain. We booked a whole day and loved it so much we ended up booking another half day. The quality and knowledge was incredible and really tailored to our needs. We learned exactly what we wanted in a relaxed setting at a pace that suited us. We were both experienced indoor climbers wanting to branch out. Iain took us step by step through the whole process of trad climbing outdoors and was really encouraging to let us out on our own giving lots of great tips and advice and we have since started our collection of kit we need and brought our own rope! Will definitely book again to learn more!
